Introduction / Overview:
Bibliotherapy is the ancient practice of reading for therapeutic effect. Today, bibliotherapy is used across multiple clinical and non-clinical disciplines including reading in older age.
Learn more about the therapeutic use of literature, including poetry, short stories, book excerpts, and non-fiction in group settings. The Webinar will address providing a curated experience for group members that addresses topics of interest, aspects of wellbeing and engenders feelings of hope, connection and a sense of belonging.
Outline / Objectives:
1. Participants will develop a basic understanding of the impact literature has for wellbeing
in older age.
2. By the end of the Webinar, the participants will have a general understanding of:

The development of bibliotherapy; that is, the practice of reading for therapeutic effect.

How bibliotherapy works in a group setting.

Working with literature with older group members.

A taster of suitable texts to use in delivering bibliotherapy for older people.
